The University of Pittsburgh was founded in 1787. The campus, located in the city, is highly walkable and displays a broad variety of architectures. Perhaps the most notable building is the Cathedral of Learning, which was built in honor of education and harbors a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalityrooms.pitt.edu\">multitude of functional classrooms<\/a>\u00a0 decorated by different countries around the world.<\/p>\n<h2>Opportunities:<\/h2>\n<p>The Carvunis Lab is affiliated with the <a href=\"https:\/\/csbweb.csb.pitt.edu\/\">Department of Computational and Systems Biology<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cebam.pitt.edu\/\">Pittsburgh Center for Evolutionary Biology and Medicine<\/a>. We strive to promote team work and ambitious thinking in an ethical and productive interdisciplinary environment (request to see our Lab Manual).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Internships:<\/strong> Undergraduate and Masters students interested in doing research in our lab are encouraged to apply. We typically invite undergraduates to come do research with us full time during the summer, either through the <a href=\"https:\/\/tecbioreu.pitt.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">TecBio<\/a> (funded and competitive, for computational students), the <a href=\"https:\/\/rtp.hs.pitt.edu\/rtp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">RTP<\/a> (unpaid and not competitive, open to any student), or the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pittmed.pitt.edu\/adopt-a-proto-gene-undergraduate-summer-program-anne-ruxandra-carvunis\">adopt a proto-gene initiative<\/a> (paid, college students) program. Pitt students that have worked with us one summer may be invited to join our team more permanently during the school year. Please send an email to Dr. Carvunis including your CV and a letter explaining your motivation.\u00a0<strong>We are currently recruiting undergraduate interns for summer 2024 as part of the adopt a proto-gene initiative!
